Moods. Back

Privacy Policy

Last updated 28 September 2026

Moods. is made by Empathics LLC. This policy describes what the app collects, what it does with it, what it shares, and what it will never share. It is written to be read rather than skimmed, and we have tried to say plainly where something is a limitation rather than a promise.

What we collect

Account information

Your email address and display name. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your email address and a stable identifier from them; we never receive your password.

What you tell the app

The moods you log, any notes you write, messages you exchange with the coach, and profile details you choose to give — pronouns, how long you have been together, and similar.

Health and fitness data

With your permission, and only with it:

You can revoke either at any time, in Apple Health settings or by disconnecting Oura in the app.

Approximate location

If you allow it, we use your approximate location to fetch local weather, which helps the app relate how you feel to conditions around you. We round your coordinates to roughly a kilometre before storing them, we keep only the most recent one, and it is deleted within 48 hours. We do not keep a location history.

Device and usage information

A notification token so we can send you reminders, your device model, and — if you have chosen to see partner offers — which offers you have seen or tapped.

What we do with it

We use it to run the app: to show you your own patterns, to relate how you feel to what your body is doing, to let you and your partner see each other, and to send the reminders you have asked for.

We use Anthropic's Claude to generate daily summaries and coach responses. Your moods, the notes you write, your first name and relevant context are sent to it to produce them. We do not send your email address or any account identifier. Under our agreement with Anthropic, your data is not used to train their models.

Summaries and coach responses are generated by AI.

They can be wrong, incomplete, or miss recent context, and they are not medical, psychological or professional advice. Treat them as a prompt for your own reflection rather than an assessment of you. If something feels urgent, please speak to a person — the app can show you where.

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We do not use it to track you across other apps or websites, and the app contains no advertising or analytics software from anyone else.

Health data, specifically

Health data from Apple Health is never used for advertising or marketing, and is never shared with anyone for those purposes.

It is used only to inform what the app shows you and your partner. This is a commitment we are required to make by Apple, and one we enforce in our own systems rather than only stating here.

Sharing with other apps, through Ward

Empathics also builds Ward, infrastructure that carries emotional context between applications under limits the receiving application cannot override. Moods. can act as a source for Ward, but only if you choose to connect it.

If you never link Moods. to Ward, nothing in this section applies to you.

What another app receives

When you have authorised an application through Ward, and that application asks, it may receive:

SharedNever shared
A coarse emotional state
How that state was arrived at
A yes/no flag for whether physiological signals were involved
When it was recorded
An identifier unique to you and that app
Your name or email
Your account identifier
Any heart rate, sleep or other health value
Your notes or messages
Your location
Anything about your partner

The identifier is different for every application you connect. Two applications comparing notes cannot tell they are describing the same person.

What is never shared, whatever you have agreed

Some emotional states are never sent to other applications at all, regardless of the permissions you have granted. These are the states that indicate acute vulnerability.

You do not have to turn this on, and you cannot turn it off. The moments you would most want protecting are the moments you are least likely to be managing your settings.

A mood arrived at from your body, rather than one you stated yourself, is also never sent to another application.

Seeing and stopping it

Ward records every request another application makes for your context — which application, when, and whether anything was shared — and shows you that record. You can withdraw any application's access at any time, either in Moods. or in Ward, and it takes effect immediately.

Those access records belong to Ward, and they are kept under Ward's own policy. Deleting your Moods. account does not delete them.

Partner offers

The app can show occasional offers from partner brands, matched to broad emotional categories. This is off by default and requires two separate opt-ins — one to see offers, one to receive them as notifications.

Brands never receive your identity, your mood history, or any individual record. They see counts of how many people matched a category, and only when that group is large enough that no individual can be inferred from it. Offers are never matched using health data.

How long we keep things

One consequence worth knowing: if you look back further than 90 days, you will see your mood entry and its daily figures, but the fine-grained heart rate chart for that day will be empty. We would rather hold less of that than keep it indefinitely.

Your choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, and to withdraw consent. Deleting your account and exporting your data are both available in the app, as above. For anything else, write to us and we will help.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by our infrastructure provider. Sign-in credentials are stored in your device's Keychain. Access to production systems is limited to people who need it.

No system is perfectly secure, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise.

Children

Moods. is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, write to us and we will delete it.

Where your data is held

On servers in the United States, operated by Google Cloud. If you are outside the United States, using the app means your information is transferred there.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that materially affects you, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
